About this event
Friend or Foe: A Discussion on Artificial Intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, felt like science fiction for most of us until it suddenly took the world by storm. But what is AI? Why is it suddenly so popular? Can it help us, or harm us?
In this discussion, Dr. Suarez will describe how AI works, how it can impact our daily lives, and what could be in store for the future.
Alejandro Suarez, Ph.D., is a Program Director at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). For the past 10 years, Dr. Suarez has funded the cyberinfrastructure that supports scientific research: be it supercomputers, software and data analysis tools, or educations and workforce programs. Prior to joining NSF, Dr. Suarez completed his B.S. in Applied Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earned a Ph.D. in Computational Physics from Penn State University, and served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
