Art Talk: Japanese American Artists in the First Half of the 20th Century, Part 1

Volunteer docent Lee Ann Lawch returns to help us explore artwork from the SAAM collection. In 1942, amidst WWII fear, Executive Order 9066 went into effect incarcerating more than 100,000 West Coast Japanese Americans. Although Japanese Americans farther east were not incarcerated, their movement and possessions were restricted and activities monitored. We examine how Japanese American artists persisted during those troubling times.
