Garden Walk, Simpson Park Gardens

The Gardens in the Eugene Simpson Stadium Park were installed and are maintained by the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia. They were begun more than 30 years ago on an unused, grassy/weedy plot along Monroe Avenue, across from the then Giant Supermarket. The great expansion of the gardens began in 1996 when the city agreed to install a children’s playground along Duncan Avenue and approved a plan for a series of new trees and gardens designed by Audrey Faden just south of the playground. A great variety of trees and flowers were planted and are still maintained by Master Gardeners.

AHA members and volunteers are invited to meet AHA member Bob Faden at the main entrance of the YMCA for a personal tour of the gardens. The first half of the walk will visit the two gardens along Monroe Avenue.  The second half will be for the gardens further back (north).
